Above and Beyond

Every builder wants to know that the homes they build are met with satisfaction, but few go to the lengths of The Orchards Group, an Atlanta-based active adult builder since 1998.

At The Orchards of Brannon Oak Farm, an active adult new home community in Cumming, the builder recently went above the call of duty to ensure that homeowners Hans and Lita Shaefer, who had recently relocated from Seattle, were satisfied with their new home.

“Hans and Lita came to us with a few specific needs,” said Mitch Block, director of sales and marketing for the Orchards Group. “Most importantly, Hans, a retired ship builder is confined to a wheelchair and needed a home where he could move around freely and not feel confined within his own home. We wanted to do everything we could to help accommodate all of his needs.”

In order to meet Hans’ specific needs, the Orchards Group’s architect worked closely with the Shaefer’s. The result included moving a few columns in the living room to allow ease of access for Hans to move throughout the home. In addition, The Orchards Group added hardwoods throughout the first story, added wider doorways and even built a custom roll in shower and higher toilets in the bathroom on the first level of the home to accommodate Hans.

“I just can’t say enough about The Orchards Group and their willingness to work with our needs every step of the way,” said Hans.
