Orchards Group “Walks for The Cure”

It is estimated that 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Compared to other types, the breast cancer death rate is the second highest after lung cancer. Yet, in 2010 more than 2.5 million survivors celebrated the end of their battle with this terrible disease.

To aid in the continued research for the cure against breast cancer, the Orchards Group, Atlanta’s leading active adult homebuilder, is extremely proud to be participating in this year’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for a Cure.  Stacy Wheelus, the Orchards Group social director, will be leading the team by walking in this 60-mile, three-day event. Since 1982 the Susan G. Komen for the Cure has invested more than 1.9 billion towards the fight against breast cancer, becoming one of the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

“I am very proud to be representing the Orchards Group in this important event.  It’s a powerful statement and I am very excited to be in the middle of it,” says Stacy. “With only four months to go, I am diligently training, walking three miles every morning.”

This year’s walk is taking place on October 21 to 23, rain or shine in downtown Atlanta. Participants will be walking a combined 60 miles over the course of three days and are required to raise at least $2,300. Throughout the whole event, participants will be able to enjoy time with team members and have the chance to meet survivors and hear their stories. There will be cheer teams, rest pit stops with beverages, food and first aid if needed. Tent cities will be constructed each night to continue the celebration.

“Because many Orchards Group homeowners have been affected by this terrible disease, they have been very supportive of this cause. With the help of family, friends and homeowners, I have raised $700 in just one month.”

As time draws closer to the event, Stacy and the Orchards Group could be hosting fundraising events but if you would like to donate now simply go the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure website. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
