Stacy is Walking for the Cure

Happily sporting the color pink, tying up her running shoes, hydrating with lots of water and braving the hot weather to walk three miles every morning has become the norm for The Orchards Group’s social director, Stacy Wheelus.

She has been diligently training for the boldest breast cancer event in history—the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure. Stacy will be representing The Orchards Group, Atlanta’s leading builder of active adult neighborhoods, by walking in this 60-mile, three-day event which will be held on October 21 to 23, rain or shine, in downtown Atlanta.

“The walk is going to be an emotional and empowering experience,” stated Stacy. “It is definitely something I can cross off of my bucket list.”

Stacy has never done anything like the 3-Day before and decided to participate because she has had several family members affected by breast cancer. In addition, she wanted to represent all of The Orchards Group’s residents that have been affected or know someone who has had breast cancer.

Until the 3-Day, Stacy will continue to train. She even has a weekend planned out, for when the weather gets cooler, to walk 10 miles each day. Stacy will also keep working toward her goal of $2,300. So far, she has raised about $1,400—all from Habersham Grove and Brannon Oak Farm homeowners! To raise the rest of the money, The Orchards Group is planning some fun community fundraisers.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure is one of the world’s largest grassroots networks of breast cancer survivors and activists. The walk has raised over $1.9 billion for breast cancer research and brings together many people, including residents of The Orchards Group.
